Pattern  Zen pattern and kit from KimoYes
What it’s for  Gift for friend suffering from cancer.
Batting  Matilda’s Own Cotton

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

Vintage Japanese yukata fabric kit from KimoYES. The original pattern was for a blue border around the blocks and white sashing/outer borders. I swapped them.

I cut the borders for the blocks a bit wider so I could trim them down to the perfect size.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Quilted by Gone Aussie Quilting with a large Baptist Fan pattern.

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

I don’t know why, but I struggled with the pieced border. It took me three times to get it right. I thought I could strip piece it and messed it up.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Quilted with invisible thread and Gutterman cotton.

Shows

Won 1st in “We Are Australian” category at the 2014 Braidwood Quilt Event.

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

Made in memory of my Nanny Betty, who was an Aussie war bride.

Wreath was machine appliqued with a small button hole stitch using variegated thread. Hand stitched pistol stitches for gum flowers using variegated embroidery thread.

Cornerstones were from an Australian themed applique panel. I chose the images of things that Nan would have liked.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Use a combo stipple/gum leaf design for centre – based on design from quilt pattern. Used a circle design for the pink border. Cornerstones were quilted in invisible thread around main design and stippled in the background. Warratah border was quilted in a clamshell pattern.

Batting  ?

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

Using self-modified version of “Carnival Dance” pattern to use 5″  charm packs. Adding in extra borders to help increase size. Used Red  Pepper Quilts hour glass block tutorial. Had some issues with stretching on the  bias. Needed to pay more attention to making sure seams would match up  when sewing them into four hour glass units.

Used formula for  side triangles from Quilter’s Academy Vol 2. Tried to follow their method  for trimming the quilt, but was not very successful. Next time need to  measure out from centre.

Made  matching pillowcase with left over fabric. Used “The Quilter” pattern,  but modified to use a French seam on the inside. Needed to take a deeper  second seem to avoid the first coming through. Needed to hammer the  cuff joint to make it more flexible to sew through.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Center ditch quilted with Rasant cotton  wrapped poly thread. Quilted a large spiral in the pinwheel blocks with  King Tut 40wt variegated thread (Cleopatra). Quilted running spirals in  yellow sashing with free motion X through red cornerstones. Quilted  curls in white setting triangles, piano keys in red border, double loop  in white border, “l” loops in yellow border (with the name “hazel” in  cursive in one corner), and open spirals in blue border.
