Quilt Shows

Modern Quilt Show Australia – May 2015

Canberra Quilters Exhibition – August 2015

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

I made the green block as part of a Canberra Modern Quilt Guild challenge in 2013. My MIL requested a green, gray and white wall hanging for her birthday, so I am expanding on the original block.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Marked out a feather pattern with gaps in the green/gray areas to make it look like the feathers are behind the colour sections. Added in a variety of fillers.

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

Vintage Japanese yukata fabric kit from KimoYES. The original pattern was for a blue border around the blocks and white sashing/outer borders. I swapped them.

I cut the borders for the blocks a bit wider so I could trim them down to the perfect size.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Quilted by Gone Aussie Quilting with a large Baptist Fan pattern.

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

I don’t know why, but I struggled with the pieced border. It took me three times to get it right. I thought I could strip piece it and messed it up.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Quilted with invisible thread and Gutterman cotton.

Batting  Cotton

Shows

Won 1st in “We Are Australian” category at the 2014 Braidwood Quilt Event.

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

Made in memory of my Nanny Betty, who was an Aussie war bride.

Wreath was machine appliqued with a small button hole stitch using variegated thread. Hand stitched pistol stitches for gum flowers using variegated embroidery thread.

Cornerstones were from an Australian themed applique panel. I chose the images of things that Nan would have liked.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Use a combo stipple/gum leaf design for centre – based on design from quilt pattern. Used a circle design for the pink border. Cornerstones were quilted in invisible thread around main design and stippled in the background. Warratah border was quilted in a clamshell pattern.

Batting  Matilda’s Own 100% poly for trapunto. Matilda’s Own 100% cotton for batting.

Quilt Top Notes/Techniques

I wanted to make a trapunto feathered wreath for my buzzsaw blocks in my Blue Steel quilt. This was the sampler. I didn’t end up using the wreath on the main quilt, but my samples were worthy of finishing off Quilt As You Go.

Top wreath was my design.
Middle wreath was designed by Anita Shackelford.
Bottom wreath was designed by Three Sisters Fabric.

I thought the finished quilt had a Japanese look, so I named it “Hanawa” or “wreath” in Japanese.

Quilting Notes/Techniques

Gutterman 50wt cotton thread in cream. Signature 40wt cotton thread in navy.
